Anonymous asked: Hi Rydell! Since I've watched your hula hoop-video over and over again (it's just incredible), I would like to do that, too. But there are so many different hoops on the market and I have absolutely no idea - can you recommend some to begin with? Or doesn't it really matter (weight, diameter,..)? Thank you so much in advance!
Glad you enjoyed it! My hoop is from Pixie Hoop here in Vancouver. It is from the Sky Collection - Northern Lights.
The hoop I picked is a 40 inch hoop which is a medium hoop, 42in is large and 38 is small. I recommend starting with a 40 inch hoop as you can master technique and then move to a smaller hoop to do them faster and also hand tricks outside the body is better with a smaller hoop…as I am small and dont have the arm length most do.
Also this hoop has medium grip tape so helps hold to your clothing, but not be too heavy. The 38in hoop weighs just 1lb or so. The weight comes from the grip tape.
The hoop will seem stiff at first which I like and then after alot of use relax and be more pliable.
The best part about Pixie hoops is that they are collapsable! most people store hoops off hooks which makes them unbalanced. Any hoop you own if not collapsable should be stored flat.
$80 CAN may seem pricy for a hoop but it is worth the expense as you will not need to buy another hoop for a long time, unless you want a different size.
So happy hooping and be fore warned your hips if never having used a weighted hoop will be wicked bruised and sore but give it a few days and continue on and they will get use to it and stop swelling up and bounce right back.
